June 24, 1934

Dear Marge:

It has been raining a little more each day now - four times before noon is not too often - but it dries up in ten minutes. The bad part of the rain is that we cannot play tennis because it starts to rain just after four each day. I suppose the sun holds it in suspense until then.

Dr. Oberly, a psychologist from the University of Pennsylvania, came out the other day to visit his brother, Dr. Oberly, a missionary, and to give the natives intelligence tests. There is not a place in the world where we are free from psychologists but Dr. Oberly is a fine man. He brought his small daughter along and it is mighty strange to see a white child walking up and down the street. There just are no white children unless you call the pasty, sick-looking albino children white.

The plantation is being opened up. On almost every ship out, there are a couple of new men on board. The colony of Americans is almost twice as large as when I came.

The boy springs a new dish on me every so often. Yesterday it was crawfish in a tomato sauce. It was delicious.

I am learning how executives get to be that way without going through all the work they direct. My cook was making chocolate cup cakes the other day but they were heavy and they had no frosting on them so I told...
