These are the best clips currently available
of filming the evacuation scene of "I Am Legend."
The first clip, by kidstatic, shows the
Blackhawk helicopter landing on the evacuation barge. Note the
spray of water the copter washes up from the East River. We
tried to turn away as it hit us in our faces.
The second two clips are from January
29, the fifth day of the shoot. One is in QuickTime format,
and the other a direct link from YouTube. Except for size, they
are the same.
The action had progressed by day 5. The
evacuees are advancing to the transport helicopters that would
take them, they thought, to safety.
The clips start on South Street, amid
the steady flow of "civilian" traffic. Incredibly,
this traffic was maintained during most of the filming, although
Dover Street was completely blocked. Notice the movie within
a movie within a movie, as the camera captures a by-stander
making his own film clip.

Next, the
extras move through the gates toward the barge serving as the
landing pad for the helicopters. Later, you will see the U.
S. Coast Guard helicopter on the barge.
The actual shoot follows, as the crowd
moves down the pier to the barge. They wave their hands wildly,
as they try to secure their escape. Then, in the background,
you will hear the Director yelling "Boom - Boom - Boom."
I won't give the story-line away, but it will be fantastic!
This is a movie not to miss. "Boom - Boom - Boom."
Finally, there are some nice shots of
the helicopter, U. S. Coast Guard Cutter and Brooklyn Bridge.
Enjoy!
(And thanks to kidstatic, "Real
New Yorkers Know" and J&R!")
