Mr. Loomis, whose home is in Del Rio, Texas, and who is the Liberian Financial Advisor, has been having Malaria for the last couple of days but he is better now. He lives right next door to me and is one of the five Americans in town so I am over there a lot, naturally. He is a good sort but he is ten years older than my Father - but ages do not count here.

It rained the other day for forty-eight hours straight but I only missed one day of tennis because it started and stopped sometime around four.

I got fresh provisions down from Liverpool the first in six weeks because of a change of sailing of the mail boats. It was plenty good to get fresh meats, cheeses, vegetables and fruits, after the lapse into tins or local foods.

For the last two Sundays there has been a regular fashion parade on the south beach. Natives in silk and velvet togas, Liberians in civilized dress, but so funny because they have fashions of their own.

My watch was a half hour fast this morning. It was my own fault because I set it by the street lights and last night they went out at nine-thirty instead of ten and I was up a whole half-hour too soon. I've thought about that all day. It is tough getting up before necessary.

Sincerely,
