If we were to travel to Liberia today, we would expect
to arrive the same day we departed from our home or office,
next day if an overnght flight. When Father traveled to
Liberia in 1934, however, it was a 22 day transit. There
were no practical alternatives. And along the way, the SS
Padnsay had other business to attend to, including dropping
off supplies, or picking up new goods.
So Father made stops on Funchal on the Madeira Islands,
Tenerife and Las Palmas in the Canary Islands; Dakar in
Senegal; Conakry in Guinea; and finally Free Town Sierra
Leone, before landing finally in Monrovia . The photographs
in this section record part of his excursion at Tenerife.
