Jacob Burgner, referred to as "The Blacksmith," was the son of Peter Burgner and Salome Burkhart. He was born in 1769 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania; where he married Mary Conrad in the year 1800. Jacob and Mary later moved to Summit County, Ohio. Jacob Burgner died in 1844 in Summit County.

Jacob and Mary had eleven children. Son, John Burgner, was born February 2, 1805 and died April 1, 1880.
