The New York Times NEW YORK -- Vampires are coming to take a bite out of the Big Apple _
in the latest Will Smith science fiction thriller about a mutant virus
gone awry. Filming for the Warner Bros. movie, "I Am Legend," involved
having a Black Hawk helicopter fly over the city on Wednesday for test
shots. The filming is expected to run until mid-March. In the movie, which is due in theaters in December, Smith plays the last
human survivor in what is left of the city after a terrible virus is unleashed
around the world, publicist Carol McConnaughey said. The movie will feature a scene in which a Black Hawk lands on a barge
near a Manhattan pier, said the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting,
which promotes and licenses moviemaking in the city. In filming in New York, "I Am Legend" is employing more than
3,000 city residents and supporting an industry that contributes $5 billion
to the local economy each year, the office said. © 2007 The New York Times |
