Bob Hilbert is going to be chief in the new organization The Bank of Monrovia, Inc. (A new Mexican coup). He is from Ohio U and was a freshman when I was a senior. I knew him slightly at school and he is a darned nice fellow. From now on I will have some one to live with me in my big house. Bob would like to bring out the girl to whom he has been engaged for some time but I do not know whether he will. It would be funny to spend a honeymoon in a house with a single man, don't you think?
While on board Bob and I met a boy going on down to Lagos to relieve the present American Consul there and we had a rather nice chat.
The moon was marvelous, by the way. It was two days past full so it was just rising out of the mists of the lagoon as we crossed the bar. On deck it was a shimmering path across the harbor into the forest, while the phosphorous in the water made a running lamp of the breakers.
