Las Palmas - 1934
Tonight we are going to be in Las Palmas so we are hoping to see Spanish night life. Tonight and another day at Dakar are our last stopping places before we are given to the jungles.
Yesterday everybody, or I should say most of the crew, bought canaries; today everybody bought fancy table cloths.
I took a picture of a large hotel on the side of the mountain. It looked just like a medieval Castle with turrets and towers. Everything is in pastel shades, of course, and modern buildings are being built along side of old, old homes.
Funchal was charming and quaint, but Tenerife is the town for me.
I should have told you that palm trees and all the rest of the tropical or semi-tropical fruits grow here. It is a perfect winter resort.
I would not have missed this trip for anything. It keeps me grasping for words to describe my emotions - and they are beyond description.
I should be sleeping in order to stay awake at the next port. As it is I am three-fourths asleep but I do want to get this letter out.
The moon tonight is three-quarters full an the sky is like clear crystal with millions of tiny lights for stars.
Two years is a long time but with boats sailing every couple of weeks - only people count.
